Sour Flanders Oude Bruin
6.2% | 330ml Bottle
The classic Flanders Oude Bruin, and a benchmark beer for the style it bears a punchy sour character with entrancing ripened berry fruit notes. It achieves this incredible complexity with wild spontaneous fermentation similar to lambic, after which it's matured in oak barrels for 18 months where the various wild yeasts and bacteria present in the wood of the barrel work on the beer slowly over time. The final product blends young 8-month-old beer with fully aged 18-month-old beer.
Duchesse has been brewed since 1885 and is typical of the beers brewed in the region at this time. The name honours Duchess Mary of Burgundy, who was held in high regard in the town of Vichte after granting many rights to citizens and brewers in the late 1400s.
