Collection: HALVE MAAN

Few will make their first visit to Bruges without visiting the Halve Maan brewery in the city centre. While brewing activity on the site started in 1564, the brewery has been owned and operated by the Maes family since 1856.

Xavier Vanneste, son of Véronique Maes, gave the brewery an overhaul in 2005 and launched a beer for the city of Bruges, the 'Brugse Zot' which for many is their first taste of Belgian beer in the city. In 2008 he resurrected a popular old beer from 1981 the Straffe Hendrik. More recently the brewery made headlines by installing a 2 mile beer pipeline under Bruges, connecting the brewery and the bottling house to prevent trucks driving through the centre.
